Can I Repair Pool Tiles Myself?

A common problem with backyard in-ground pools is the tile around the pool can chip, break and even come off. So many pools are in need of pool tile repair. Sometimes the problems with the pool tile are caused when the pool deck shifts due to the temperature variations between the seasons or shifting of the ground beneath the pool. Tile falling off can also be a failure of the bonding agent used to adhere the tile to the wall.

Should I Repair the Pool Tiles Myself?

In some situations, pool tile repair can be an easy do-it-yourself job, if you have matching tiles. However, it’s important to investigate why the tile is cracking or falling off. If you suspect the problem is more serious, such as you have a water leak, it will be best to hire a professional company. It’s always a good idea to have a professional personally inspect the situation so you know whether you have a simple tile repair job or a serious pool repair job.

Pool Tile Replacement

At Grand Vista Pools we do not typically handle pool tile repair, but we do specialize in pool tile replacement. We do this for two reasons:

1) Matching Tile: Usually the tile on the pool is several years, if not decades, old, and getting matching tiles is difficult. Even if you can find the same tile, the new tile and the tiles that have been out in the sun and weather for years won’t look the same.

2) Fixing the Real Problem: Sometimes a broken tile is just a broken tile, but often times cracking and fallen tiles are symptoms of a serious problem that should be addressed. You wouldn't put a band aid on a broken leg. And neither should you smack a few new tiles on a pool with a leak or a problem with the bonding agent.

It’s Like Getting a Whole New Pool for a Fraction of the Cost!

In most cases we replace pool tiles along with installing a new Pebble Tec finish to the pool. Usually when the tile starts to break or fall off, it’s time to resurface you pool as well. It’s cheapest and easiest to take care of both the tile and the surface at the same time.

Then your pool will have a fresh, clean look. You will be amazed at the difference and will be proud to have family and friends over to enjoy your updated pool. This will give you peace of mind and you will be able to enjoy your beautiful pool for years to come.

If you are interested in pool tile replacement or the installation of a new Pebble Tec finish, we hope you will contact us at Grand Vista Pools today!
