Tampa Pool Renovations – Can I Fix My Pool Tile Myself?

If you live in the Tampa area, from Tarpon Springs to Trinity or New Port Richey to New Tampa, swimming pools often have an issue in which pool tile can chip, crack, and even break off.  Sometimes tile problems are caused by poor installation or a poor bonding agent, but even with the highest quality pools, temperature changes, ground movement and normal use all contribute wear and tear to pool tiles.

Can I Fix My Own Pool Tile?

In some situations, fixing pool tiles can be an easy do-it-yourself job, if you have matching tiles. However, before starting any pool repairs, it’s important to understand why the tile chipped, cracked or or fell off. If you aren't sure of the cause or you suspect there may be a larger issue like as a water leak, it's better to hire a professional pool remodeling company. Even if you don't hire them to do the tile repair work, it’s a good idea to get a diagnosis from a pool professional, so you know for sure if you're looking at a simple tile repair job or a major pool renovation project.

Tampa Pool Renovations

At Grand Vista Pools we don't often repair pool tile, but we do specialize in pool tile replacement. We do this for two reasons:

1) Matching Tile: Usually the existing pool tile is at least a few years old, and finding matching tiles is difficult. Even if you have or are able to purchase the same exact tile as is installed in the pool, the old tile has weathered and likely faded in the sun and won't match the new tile.

2) Fixing the Whole Problem: Sometimes a broken tile is just a broken tile, but usually cracked and dislodged tiles are symptoms of a serious problem that requires major repairs. You wouldn’t put a Band-aid on a broken arm. Similarly, you shouldn't attach a few new tiles to a pool with a leak or a failing bonding agent.

Like Getting a Whole New Pool (for less money)

Often, when tiles start to crack or fall off, it it also time to do pool resurfacing as well. Therefore, we usually install a new Pebble Tec finish for the pool along with new pool tiles. This gives the entire pool a beautiful, new look. You'll be blown away at the difference and will be excited to have family and friends visit to enjoy your newly remodeled pool. A pool renovation will also give you peace of mind - instead of making frequent minor repairs or worrying whether you could face a major problem any day, you can relax and enjoy your beautiful pool for many years to come.
