New Port Richey, Florida is a suburban city in Pasco County in the Tampa Bay Area. The city is named after Aaron McLaughlin Richey, who moved from Missouri to what is now Port Richey in 1883.
In 1911, W. E. Guilford drew up plans for a future city further inland along the Pithlachascotee River. Five years later George Sims used those plans to develop New Port Richey - just 2 miles from the original city of Port Richey.
New Port Richey received a lot of notoriety during the 1920s as the "Hollywood of the East." Many actors, singers, and athletes built homes or visited the area regularly, especially during the winter months because of the climate and proximity to the Gulf of Mexico.
Today, New Port Richey continues to be a popular place to live because of the mild winter climate and its proximity to both Gulf beaches and Tampa options for work and entertainment.
