The #1 Pool Building Mistake People Make

What a new pool but don't know where to start? Understanding the biggest mistake people make may help point you in the right direction.

Unfortunately, many people end up building the wrong swimming pool. They go to a pool builder, they tell them what they want, the pool builder builds it and then they realize they're not happy with it.

Why? What's the Big Pool Building Mistake?

Not thinking through the intended purpose of the pool, and designing the pool to fit that purpose.

Many pool builders will just build whatever the homeowner wants. After all, they say, "The customer is always right." But like we said above, often homeowners haven't fully considered the intended purpose of the pool, so they ask for features that don't fit with how they'll use the pool and leave out features that would enhance the experience.

For example...

  • If your primary use will be for entertaining guests around the pool area, then you may consider mood lighting features, special landscaping and water features in and around the pool.
  • If you see yourself grilling out with friends and family, then you'll want your design to include outdoor kitchen features.
  • If you have small children or regularly have friends with small children visit, you'll want to include safety features like a security fence to control access to the pool.
  • If the pool will be primarily for exercise or physical therapy, consider a longer shallow area for swimming, spa jets in a seating area, or a seperate spa area.
