Summers in the Tampa Bay area are long and hot. For 6 months of every year, temperatures are in the 90s during the day and 70s at night. Pool temperatures are very comfortable without a heater, so do you really need a heated swimming pool in Tampa?
A heated pool may be useful for many reasons.
First, if your pool is in an area shaded by trees, the house or other obstructions, it may take an extra month or more in the Spring to reach a comfortable temperature..
Second, a heated pool in Tampa may be helpful because the fall and spring months have temperatures in the 80s, but fall into the 60s or even 50s at night. That drop in overnight temperatures can really cool down the pool temperatures.
At Grand Vista Pools, we want you to be fully satisfied with your pool, but we don’t want you to pay for extras you really don’t need. This is why we recommend waiting on installing a gas, electric or solar pool heater during the pool construction. We recommend spending a full season determining when and how you use your pool. If a heater makes sense for your family, we can always come back and install it later. The cost to come back and install a pool heating system is about the same as to install it during the pool construction.
A heating system can increase your swimming season by 4-6 weeks on both sides of summer, giving you up to 12 additional weeks of swimming each year. However, during the winter (December through February) when temperatures are in the 70s during the day and 50s at night, for many people it's too cold to swim, even with a heated pool in Florida.
On the other hand, some Tampa swimming pools - especially those that receive a lot of direct sunlight and those without screen enclosures - can actually become too warm. There are cooling system that can be added to a pool to cool down your pool to a more refreshing temperature.
The use for a Florida heated pool, or cooling system, depends much on where your pool will be located and your personal preferences. This is why at Grand Vista Pools, we meet with our customers to discuss all the details before we get started.
