Can I Do My Own Pool Tile Repair?

If you live anywhere in the Tampa Bay area, from New Tampa to Trinity or Clearwater to Keystone, swimming pools have a common problem where the pool tile can chip, crack and even break off. As a result, many Tampa pools are in need of pool tile repair. Temperature variations between the seasons, shifting ground underneath a pool and age can all cause wear and damage to pool tile.  Sometimes a poor bonding agent or poor installation can cause tile to fall off the side of the pool.

Should I Do My own Pool Tile Repair?

In some situations, pool tile repair can be an easy do-it-yourself job, if you have matching tiles. Before making any repairs, however, it’s important to understand why the tile is breaking or falling off. If you are not sure of the cause or you suspect the tile issues are a symptom of a bigger problem like as a water leak, it's best to hire a professional pool repair company. It’s always a good idea to have a professional examine the problem so you know whether you have a simple tile repair job or a serious pool repair job.

Pool Tile Replacement

At Grand Vista Pools we don't usually repair pool tile, but we do specialize in pool tile replacement. We do this for two reasons:

1) Matching Tile: Usually the tile on the pool is at least a few years old, and finding matching tiles is difficult. Even if you can find the same exact tiles as installed in the pool, the old tile has weathered and possibly faded and won't match the new tile.

2) Fixing the Underlying Problem: Sometimes a broken tile is just a broken tile, but frequently cracked and dislodged tiles are symptoms of a serious problem that needs to be repaired. You wouldn’t put a Band-aid on a broken leg; neither should you stick a few new tiles on a pool with a leak or a crumbling bonding agent.

It’s Like Getting a Whole New Pool at a Much Lower Cost!

Often, when tiles start to break or come off, it's also time to resurface the pool as well. As a result, we typically install a new Pebble Tec finish to the pool along with replacing pool tiles. This gives the entire pool a beautiful, new appearance. You will be amazed at the difference and will be proud to have family and friends over to enjoy your newly renovated pool. This will also give you peace of mind that you will be able to enjoy your beautiful pool for years to come.

If you are interested in pool tile replacement or the installation of a new Pebble Tec finish, we hope you will contact us at Grand Vista Pools today!
