Pool Tile Repair – Can I Do It Myself?

A common issue with in-ground swimming pools is the pool tile can chip, break and even come off. As a result, many pools are in need of pool tile repair. Sometimes the problems with the pool tile are due to the temperature variations between the seasons or shifting of the ground beneath the pool. Tile falling off can also be a failure of the bonding agent used to adhere the tile to the wall.

Should I Repair Pool Tile Myself?

In some circumstances, pool tile repair can be an easy do-it-yourself job, assuming you have matching tiles. However, it’s important to understand why the tile is breaking or coming off. If you are unsure of the cause or you suspect the problem is more serious, such as a water leak, it's best to hire a professional pool company. It’s always a good idea to have a professional take a look at the problem so you know whether you have a simple tile repair job or a serious pool repair job.

Pool Tile Replacement

At Grand Vista Pools we don't usually repair pool tile, but we do specialize in pool tile replacement. We do this for two reasons:

1) Matching Tile: Usually the tile on the pool is several years old, and finding matching tiles is difficult. Even if you can find the same tile, the old tile has weathered and won't match the new tile.

2) Fixing the Underlying Problem: Sometimes a broken tile is just a broken tile, but often cracking and fallen tiles are symptoms of a serious problem that needs to be addressed. You wouldn’t put a Band-aid on a broken leg; neither should you stick a few new tiles on a pool with a leak or a crumbling bonding agent.

It’s Like Getting a Whole New Pool for a Fraction of the Cost!

Usually, when tiles start to break or fall off, it's also time to resurface the pool as well. So, typically, we replace pool tiles along with installing a new Pebble Tec finish to the pool. Then your pool will have a fresh, clean look. You will be amazed at the difference and will be proud to have family and friends over to enjoy your newly renovated pool. This will also give you peace of mind that you will be able to enjoy your beautiful pool for years to come.

If you are interested in pool tile replacement or the installation of a new Pebble Tec finish, we hope you will contact us at Grand Vista Pools today!
