Tampa Pool Remodeling – Can I Repair My Own Pool Tile?

If you live anywhere in the Tampa Bay area, from Trinity to Tarpon Springs or New Tampa to New Port Richey, swimming pools have a common problem - pool tile can crack, chip and even fall off.  Sometimes poor installation or a poor bonding agent is to blame. But even in the best built pools, age, temperature changes, and shifting ground underneath a pool all contribute wear and damage to pool tile.

DIY Pool Tile Repair?

In some cases, pool tile repair can be an easy do-it-yourself job, if you have matching tiles. However, before starting any pool repairs, it’s important to understand why the tile is cracking or coming off. If you aren't sure what the cause is or you suspect the tile problems are a symptom of a bigger issue like as a water leak, it's better to hire a professional pool repair company. Even if you don't end up hiring them, it’s a good idea to get a second opinion from a pool professional, so you know for sure whether you have a simple tile repair task or a serious pool remodeling project.

Pool Tile Replacement

At Grand Vista Pools we don't typically repair pool tile, but we do specialize in pool tile replacement. We do this for two reasons:

1) Matching Tile: Usually the existing tile on the pool is at least a couple of years old, and finding matching tiles is difficult. Even if you have or are able to find the same exact tile as installed in the pool, the old tile has weathered and likely faded in the sun and won't match the new tile.

2) Fixing the Main Problem: Sometimes a broken tile is just a broken tile, but usually cracked and dislodged tiles are symptoms of a serious problem that requires significant repairs. You wouldn’t put a Band-aid on a broken arm. Similarly, you shouldn't attach a few new tiles to a pool with a leak or a failing bonding agent.

It’s Like Getting a Whole New Pool for less $

Often, when tiles start to break or come off, it's also time to do pool resurfacing as well. As a result, we typically install a new Pebble Tec finish to the pool along with replacing pool tiles. This gives the entire pool a beautiful, new appearance. You will be amazed at the difference and will be proud to have family and friends visit to enjoy your newly remodeled pool. This will also give you peace of mind that you will be able to enjoy your beautiful pool for many years to come.
