While much of the U.S. is still enduring freezing temperatures, here in the Tampa area, it’s already starting to feel like summer. From Trinity to Tampa and Palm Harbor to Palma Ceia, the swimming season is just around the corner. If you're considering a new pool, you might be wondering: Can I still get a pool built in my backyard by summer?
The Answer is Yes!
If you start now, you can absolutely have a brand-new pool in time for summer. Previously, we discussed the common question: How long does pool installation take? The general timeline for the entire process, from your first phone call to your first swim, was around 10-12 weeks. However, thanks to new advancements in the installation process, this timeline has now been shortened.
Faster Pool Installations with Private Provider Inspections
One of the biggest changes in pool installation is the introduction of private provider inspections. In the past, each phase of construction required a county inspector to visit the site in person, which could cause delays—especially during Florida’s rainy season when rescheduling was often necessary. Now, these inspections are conducted via Zoom, allowing for same-day approvals and eliminating unnecessary delays.
How does this impact your pool build?
- Before: A dig might happen on Monday, rebar installed on Tuesday, but rain on Wednesday could delay inspections until Friday, pushing back the entire process.
- Now: The rebar is installed on Tuesday, inspected the same afternoon via Zoom, and concrete can be poured on Wednesday—eliminating days of waiting time.
This change has streamlined the process, reducing the construction timeline to 6 to 8 weeks after permits and approvals are obtained.
What About Permits?
The permit approval process remains the same, typically taking around 30 days. However, while waiting for permits, other essential steps are being completed, such as finalizing design plans, getting HOA approvals, and ordering materials.
From the time you sign the contract, you can expect construction to begin in approximately 60 days. After that, your pool will be completed within 6 to 8 weeks—meaning if you start today, you’ll be enjoying your backyard paradise by Memorial Day!
Considerations During Construction
During installation, your backyard will temporarily become a construction site. While access to the yard doesn’t have to be completely restricted, safety is a major concern. We advise homeowners to keep children and pets away from the site, particularly when the pool hole is open. While fences and barriers can be installed, it’s generally recommended to keep the worksite as accessible as possible to ensure smooth progress.
Choosing the Right Pool Features
When working with a swimming pool contractor in Odessa, FL, you’ll have several choices to customize your pool. Some of the latest features include:
- Splash Decks & Tanning Ledges – These provide a shallow lounging area where you can place chairs in the water, making them great for both relaxation and accessibility.
- Smart Filtration & Automation Systems – New ORP (Oxidation-Reduction Potential) systems help regulate chlorine and pH levels automatically, reducing maintenance efforts.
- Advanced LED Lighting – The latest Infinite Light Systems offer customizable colors, dimmable settings, and separate controls for different pool areas.
- Micro Glass Surface Sealing – A new innovation that helps prevent staining and extends the life of pool finishes like Pebble Tec.
- Louvered Pergolas – An increasingly popular feature that allows homeowners to adjust shade and coverage over their pool areas at the push of a button.
Saltwater vs. Chlorine Pools: What’s Best for You?
One of the most common questions we get is whether to install a saltwater or chlorine pool. Each has its advantages:
- Saltwater Pools: Maintain a constant chlorine level, reducing the risk of the pool turning green after heavy rains. However, salt cells need replacement every 4-8 years, and the cost can be around $4,000.
- Chlorine Pools: Use tablets that must be monitored and replaced regularly. Over time, stabilizer levels can build up, requiring occasional draining to rebalance chemicals.
Whichever you choose, weekly testing of water chemistry is still necessary to ensure proper balance.
Outdoor Features That Enhance Your Pool Area
Many homeowners want to create a complete backyard retreat with additional features such as:

- Outdoor kitchens with built-in grills or pizza ovens
- Composite cabinetry for modern outdoor storage solutions

- Pergolas and shaded seating areas
One of our most unique projects involved a pergola with a built-in waterfall over the sun shelf, creating a resort-like atmosphere. We’ve also installed underwater speakers, allowing swimmers to enjoy music below the surface!
