While pools are a wonderful source of fun and entertainment, we shouldn't neglect the fact that every many people are injured and even die in and around swimming pools. Pool safety is of supreme importance, and should be a priority throughout the entire lifetime of the swimming pool, starting at the very beginning – when the pool designed. In this post I want to share with you...

- If your swimming pool design includes steps, include small tiles that will help swimmers to see the steps and gauge their depth.
- Design your pool to include a screen or fence around it to prevent a child from wandering into it.
- If you have guests over who have small children, consider adding an additional security fence around your pool with child-proof latches.
- For even more safety, consider including a gate alarm on the fence or a wave alarm on the pool which will sound when someone enters the water.
- If you design the area around your pool to include a step up to a kitchen, bar or outdoor living area, make sure it is designed with visual cues so guests don’t unexpectedly fall off or trip over the step.
